This painting of the iconic Pemaquid Point Lighthouse was created building watercolor washes over a detailed pencil drawing. The technique is meant to evoke the hand-colored black and white photographs that were popular before color photography became affordable and ubiquitous.
I have used this technique in other artwork on this site, including: Portland Head Light at Sunrise, Nubble Light, FO Goldthwaite, Schooner and Portland Observatary, and Boat Bumpers.
