In my painting “Ram Island Light” the lighthouse is viewed from Ocean Point on the mainland looking across Fisherman Island Passage. A black and white eider duck is pictured in the foreground flying just above the rocks visible at low tide.

Ram Island Lighthouse, not to be confused with Ram Island Ledge Light near Portland, Maine, marks the entrances of Linekin Bay and the Damariscotta River. It was built in 1883 to warn the busy shipping traffic near Boothbay Harbor about the island and the nearby ledges.

This is the eleventh lighthouse I have visited in my quest to visit and paint all of Maine’s beautiful and iconic lighthouses. You can follow my progress at my blog, MaineLighthousePaintings.com.
