One of my brothers owned a charter boat that hailed out of Scituate, Massachusetts. He used to do fishing charters out into Cape Cod Bay quite frequently. One summer he was hired by a film crew that was doing a documentary about tuna fishing. A friend in a nearby boat took a photo of my brother’s boat with the film crew in back. A couple of the crew were taking the time to cast some lines. My brother sent me the photo. As a gift, I painted this for him, changing all of the rest of the film crew into fishermen as well. The original painting currently hangs in his office.

The original painting is 16×20 inches, watercolor on panel. This was a bit of an experiment with watercolors straight out of the tube and not thinned down, using them almost like oil paints. I liked the effect and this technique eventually led me to gouache, which is my current medium of choice.
