I painted the old stone bell tower for St. Lawrence church in 2002 shortly after I had walked past if for the first time since moving to Portland, Maine. I loved the fine details and Romanesque architecture that inspired the original parishioners of St. Lawrence when they built it in 1897.
The painting is small, but very detailed, as I wanted to catch the rough hewn quality of the stonework, which I found the most interesting part of the bell tower.
Unfortunately the tower had to come down because of structural issues in 2008.
