This painting depicts Portland Head Light and the rocky cliff it sits upon. Fog approaches the lighthouse from the Atlantic Ocean.
Portland Head Light is located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. This is my second painting of the iconic Maine Lighthouse after moving to Portland. I was still experimenting with Colonial-era milk paints when I painted this. Their natural matte quality was perfect for the gray, muted atmosphere I was painting.
This was the first Maine lighthouse painting I did before I decided to start my quest to visit and paint all of Maine’s beautiful and iconic lighthouses. You can follow my progress at my Maine Lighthouse Paintings blog.
